Pillars of Islam

Pillars of Islam, are they actually “five”?

The first thing that comes to mind as we address this very important warning is that abandoning the Qur’an and deserting it, and following the fabricated narrations, is to accept what has been rumored and circulated by Muslims for centuries as unquestionable principals that must be obeyed without reviewing or thinking or checking.

The main pillars of Islam were confined to what they called the “Five Pillars of Islam”, where generations were raised and brought up on the teaching of the pillars of Islam that they were confined to “reciting the two testimonies, performing prayers, paying zakat, fasting and Hajj.” They considered these pillars as the complete faith Islam and they ignored what these pillars aim at.

The scholars – who promoted and advocated the reduction of Islam in what they called the five pillars – did not pay attention to show the true pillars of Islam contained in the verses of the holy Qur’an.

All what the ancient preachers of Islam and the old sheikhs did is that they conveyed to us concepts and interpretations of human jurisprudence that turned the means- the rituals- and made them the objectives.

They created a dilemma where people missed of the objectives of religion and its supreme purposes. These purposes are in fact the true pillars called for through the Holy Qur’an, which embody the faith of Islam which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has called for. The Prophet and all the messengers before him have called for the same pillars. The true message is the development of the individual and the building of the Muslim personality with a set of ethics, virtues and noble values to create peaceful societies in which justice, mercy, freedom and cooperation are achieved among the members. Thus, these members will enjoy what Allah Almighty has given them such as the different types of wealth and riches to lead a pleasant and decent life where they enjoy security, prosperity and peace. Allah promised Muslims if they followed the divine orders:

Those who have proclaimed what they reverently entertained in their minds, and put their thoughts in words: « Our Ilah is Allah, the Creator.», and they have always trodden the path of righteousness and lifted to Him their inward sight, invite the descent of the angels who come down to impel them to the feeling of security and intimate to them thus: « You are not to fear fate nor to grieve over predestined events, and rejoice your hearts and minds at the blissful tidings of winning the Paradise you were promised.»” (Fussilat: 30)

It is no wonder then that we find Muslims today lacking a lot of morals, values and humanitarian principles. We see the majority of Muslims who pray, fast and go to pilgrimage, but their behavior is not corresponding with the faith of Islam. This is because they grew up according to the mistaken belief that the rituals or practices are the true goals and objectives while the morals, principles and human values are not of the pillars or the Islamic principles.
