The regenerative thoughts of “Al-Shurafa” at a discussion table of Mauritanian intellectuals

In the capital city of Mauritania, the cultural community witnessed a special symposium, in which participants discussed the innovative thinking adopted by the Arab thinker Ali Muhammad Al-Shurafa Al-Hammadi. This thinking method is based on the need to return to the original divine discourse represented in the Holy Quran. The thought calls for abandoning the religious discourse that is promoted through the tales and narratives falsely attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the contemporaries; the companions of the Prophet.

The seminar was organized by the Mauritanian Foundation for Publishing and Distribution, in cooperation with the United Oriental Foundation in Abu Dhabi and Al-Nokhba Publishing House in Cairo, at Al-Khater Hotel in the Mauritanian capital city Nouakchott. The seminar was attended by a number of academics and intellectuals in Mauritania. The seminar was run by the reporter Fadel Mohammed Fadel and was attended by many of the proponents of the regenerative thought.

The most important feature of this intellectual seminar was that it included two generations of intellectuals and opinion makers in Mauritania. A number of leading scholars and thinkers participated in the seminar, as well as a group of young researchers and university students. This provided the seminar with a fruitful discussion and benefit conversations.

Hay Walad Maaweya, the Director of the Mauritanian Foundation for Publishing and Distribution, opened the seminar by welcoming the participating scholars and thought leaders. Hay explained briefly the most important topics that will be discussed in the intellectual meeting of researches, studies and discussions on the intellectual and enlightenment project led by the Arab thinker Ali Muhammad Al-Shurafa Al-Hammadi. Hay pointed out that the most important topics of the meeting are talking about the research «pillars of Islam between reduction and negligence», of the researcher Al-Hammadi.

The young Sheikh, Nouh Walad Mohamed Issa, gave a lecture on the main issue of the intellectual symposium. Moreover, Nouh discussed the most important points of what the thinker Ali Al-Shurafa discussed in his books, “Muslims between Religious Discourse and the Divine Discourse” and “the Message of Islam”. Noah gave a detailed definition on the value of the books and the enlightenment thoughts included in them which are needed by the modern religious discourse.

Dr. Osama Ibrahim, Head of Al-Nokhba House for Printing and Publishing, commented on what Walad Issa said about “the thought of Al-Shurafa”. Dr. Ibrahim pointed out that it is one of the most important intellectual values that must be available now in the analysis of the religious discourse in rational ways that take into account the intellectual developments and the development of the Islamic thought and the changes in time and place. This idea was supported by the pioneer reporter Ismail Walad Rabbani, the publisher of the National Harmony Agency and the editor of the Enlightenment magazine. Rabbani stressed that all intellectuals in the Islamic world should be free from the intellectual restrictions. He added that, these restrictions were set by the ancestors and the affiliates to the so-called the “Islamic institutions”.
